Mixing Acrylic Paints Properly

One of the most frequently used products of wax emulsion Selangor is no doubt paint, especially acrylic when you want to paint your own art for kicks. Besides just dipping your brush and paint away, mixing acrylic colors is also something you will do a lot when you need a certain color for a specific part of your art.

Mixing colors is easy, but it goes beyond combining the correct colors to achieve a new one.

Using white

If you haven’t noticed yet, most of the colors that come straight out of your acrylic paint tubes or bottles tend to be flat and hard on your own canvas. At this point you want to make it more vibrant and add some complexity to them, so do this by adding a bit of white or lighter version of the same color. Fantastic.

You can also use white colors to increase the opacity of other colors as well as making them well rounded in appearance. Try to paint two strips of the same color on an empty canvas, then add a bit of white onto one of them and compare the difference between their own opacity.

Black does not darken a color

Now knowing that white can lighten your color, you might ask yourself: what about darkening my colors? Maybe I should add black to do the job? The answer is absolutely not.

The problem with black is that it can make your pretty colors muddy and murky, degenerating them into ugliness unless you are deliberately doing this to create a fitting effect of your current art. Instead, if you want a darker yet still vibrant color, pick brown or dark blue as unlike black, they actually work.

Making your skin tone more realistic

Suppose you have assembled a palette of skin tone colors, which you achieve by mixing all of the primary colors, what if you want to enhance them further in terms of complexity and depth, making them look realistic? The solution: put a tiny touch of blue or green paint and you are done.

A deep blue

Want to make your oceans or skies really deep blue in the night? Use a touch of red paint and you will have the result. But do not put too much unless you are planning to achieve a deep purple. Red is also useful to blue because it prevents it from feeling too flat to look at.

Saving mixed colors

Acrylic Paint on Wood - Mixing Acrylic Paints Properly

When you still have mixed colors left to be used for future paintings or in tomorrow’s continuation, you can save them in airtight containers such as film canisters since acrylic paint can quickly dry out. When sealed properly, the colors will be retained and you can simply use it like any other base paints when you are ready.

This isn’t just limited to mixed colors. You can also store unused base paints too so you don’t have to waste them and buy more colors should they run out. Again, be sure that they are sealed in airtight spaces, otherwise you might have to go through the hassle of having to moisten it again like you did when you first took a batch of them out from your storeroom shelf.
